Fike launches Valvex Explosion Protection Passive Isolation Valve

Fike Corporation announced the addition of a new ValveEx passive isolation explosion protection solution for dust aspiration and dilute-phase pneumatic conveyance systems to its line of products. The passive explosion isolation valve is designed to prevent flame and pressure propagation through interconnected pipes, ducts or conveying lines to additional process equipment or operating locations.

The ValvEx passive explosion isolation valve is designed to prevent flame and pressure propagation through interconnected pipes, ducts or conveying lines.

“Thanks to Fike’s dust explosion propagation research campaign, Fike is able to define the dominant explosion parameters that affect flame and pressure propagation in a vented vessel-pipeline system. A correlation between venting parameters and valve performance was found, and Fike has identified conditions under which valves do fail,” explained Bob Korn, Fike’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “From this knowledge Fike has developed a superior passive isolation solution in the explosion protection industry,” concluded Korn.

“There are tradeoffs between efficiency, cost, and pressure drop. We don’t want our customers to settle for less, that’s why we developed ValvEx®,” commented Stephen Clegg, Fike’s Explosion Protection Product Manager. “An explosion propagating through a vented pneumatic conveyance system is a fairly complicated fluid dynamic process. Through Fike’s extensive flame propagation research; this knowledge has enabled us to design a passive explosion isolation valve that prevents unwarranted failure,” concluded Clegg.
